Breaking Free: From Feeling Stuck to Finding Purpose

Feeling stuck in life is a common experience that many of us face at some point. Sometimes we need to pause and understand ourselves better to help forge a path forward.

If this is how you’re feeling, you’re not alone! Read on for some helpful tools and techniques to help you go from feeling stuck to finding purpose and making progress.

Whether it's in our careers, relationships, or personal development, navigating through periods of stagnation can be challenging. As a life coach, I've had the privilege of helping individuals break free from these limiting mindsets and behaviours, guiding them towards the achievement of their life goals.

A quote I read the other day that sums this up beautifully “Change is painful. Growth is painful. But nothing is as painful as staying stuck somewhere you don’t belong - Mandy Hale (best selling author and speaker)

Self Awareness

First and foremost, it's essential to recognize that feeling stuck is a natural part of the human experience. However, it doesn't have to define our journey. One of the most powerful tools in overcoming stagnation is self-awareness. By taking the time to reflect on our thoughts, emotions, and behaviours, we can identify the underlying factors contributing to our feelings of being stuck.

The answers are within you but self awareness is needed to clear the weeds and uncover the path that feels most true and authentic to you.

While it might sound easy (after all, most people like to consider themselves pretty self aware) this is about surfacing the long held subconscious thoughts and beliefs that are driving your thoughts and behaviours in your everyday life. 90% of the thoughts we had yesterday will be the same as we have today, so in order to create change or get unstuck, we need to change our thoughts.

The first step to surfacing insights about yourself is to identify thoughts and beliefs in your subconscious and bring them into your consciousness. How do you do this? Quieten your mind through by focusing on your breathe, as one of my favourite meditation teachers, Zoe Kanat says ‘the breathe is the thread of connection from your outer world to your inner world’

When you have a negative thought about the reason you’re stuck , ask yourself, what is the belief that underpins this thought? Is this belief true? Does this belief serve me? If you’re struggling to do this on your own,  a life coach can really help you do this work (click here to book a 20 min Discovery Call with me)

Understand Your Values

Another way to drive self awareness is to start to understand your values. What is it you value in life? What values do you currently hold and are you living in alignment with these? If you’re a parent or caregiver, what values are important to you as a family?

Cultivating a positive mindset and practising self-compassion are also crucial elements of getting unstuck. Instead of dwelling on past failures or perceived shortcomings, focus on the lessons learned and the opportunities for growth that lie ahead.

Take Aligned Action

Once we've gained clarity on what's holding us back and what we value, it's time to take action. This may involve setting realistic goals and developing new habits. Embracing change and stepping outside of our comfort zones is often necessary for growth and is made easier when you’ve got someone keeping you accountable and cheering you on from the sidelines. Again this is where a life coach can be incredibly helpful.

Ultimately, getting unstuck is a journey that requires patience, perseverance, and a willingness to embrace change. As a life coach, I'm here to support and empower you every step of the way, helping you break free from limitations and realise your full potential. Remember, the only limits that exist are the ones we place on ourselves. It's time to break free from feeling stuck and create the life you truly desire.
